Everton vs Crystal Palace Prediction & Betting Tips - Premier League

by Ian John | in Premier League Prediction

Everton face Crystal Palace on Monday in a game that could have massive repercussions for both teams hopes this season's Premier League. Everton need to win to stand a chance of moving out of the relegation zone as they lie 18th at the moment. Palace are five points ahead of Everton in 15th, but a defeat would drag them into the relegation battle. Palace manager Roy Hodgson was taken ill during training this week and remains in a stable condition in hospital, a worrying development which has hit Palace's preparations for this important game.

Everton - Crystal Palace: Form Analysis

Everton head into this game without a win in their last three home games, although only one of those games ended in defeat. Points though. are not enough at present to move the Toffees out of the drop zone, with that 10-point deduction biting them hard at present. Manager Sean Dyche has served his touchline ban and will return to the dugout for this game against a team that the Toffees have a very good recent record against. Goals could be at a premium on Monday night as Everton have the third worst and Palace the fourth worst goalscoring record in the division with 26 and 27 goals scored apiece. Only Burnley and Sheffield United have scored fewer goals this season.

The news Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson was taken ill during training for this game last week will have been a real shock for the club. The ex-England manager was reportedly set to be axed last week, but now may have to step down to focus on his health and recovery as he remains stable in hospital. Coming into this game, Palace had lost three of their last four in the Premier League and disgruntled Eagles fans had been protesting at recent games about the lack of leadership at the club and also some questionable decisions by the manager. Ray Lewington will likely take over first team duties for Monday with ex-Eintracht Frankfurt manager Oliver Glasner reportedly set to take over after Monday's game.

Everton & Crystal Palace Squad Analysis

Everton could welcome two players back from injury this week. Ben Godfrey should be fine to make a return after recovering from illness that kept him out of the defeat to Manchester City last week, while Abdoulaye Doucoure is close to a return from a thigh injury and is rated a 50/50 chance to feature against the Eagles. Arnaut Danjuma, Dele Alli and Andre Gomes will be out however.

In addition to their manager, Palace have a lengthy injury list. Long term absentees Chieck Doucoure, Rob Holding and Jesurun Rak-Sakyi all remain unavailable. Michael Olise also seems set for a spell on the sidelines after a recurrence of his thigh injury. There is better news for Palace fans though as Will Hughes is rated 50/50 for the game with Everton after recovering from an ankle injury, while Marc Guehi and Eberechi Eze are both just a week away or so from a return from injuries, but neither will be available for the Everton game.

Everton - Crystal Palace Key Points

  1. Everton's 10-point deduction leaves them on 19 points in the Premier League, occupying 18th place in the table, one point behind Luton in 17th place. The Toffees have not won any of their last seven League games (drawing three, losing four).
  2. Crystal Palace occupy 15th place in the Premier League table with 24 points. They have won just two of their last five Premier League games, losing the other three.
  3. With 26 Premier League goals scored for Everton and 27 for Palace this season, these two teams have two of the lowest goals scored totals in the division. Only Burnley (25) and Sheffield United (22) have scored fewer goals.
  4. Palace's preparations for the game were severely disrupted when manager Roy Hodgson was taken ill during training. He remains in hospital in a stable condition. Rumours are that the 76-year-old will step down and ex-Eintracht Frankfurt manager Oliver Glasner will take over.
  5. Everton are unbeaten in their last six against Palace, winning four and drawing two.

Our Everton vs Crystal Palace Prediction

It's hard to know what to make of both these teams. Both are struggling, both have been inconsistent of late, both at home and away. But what cannot be argued is that Everton do seem to have the advantage in games between the two of late, including going unbeaten in three previous games played between them this season (2 wins, 1 draw). Despite that, it is hard to make a case for either side to win this game - the data just doesn't support that. Our prediction for Everton v Crystal Palace will therefore be a draw.

Everton vs Crystal Palace - Other Interesting Predictions

Draw And Under 2.5 Goals to be Scored

With both these teams struggling for goals and confidence at the moment, and with both desperate for the points, I can't see a game packed with plenty of goals. Instead I expect a tight edgy affair and as our first choice is for the draw, it makes sense to pair that with the Under 2.5 goals market for our second prediction here.

Idrissa Gueye (Everton) to be booked

In a game that will be tight, scrappy and somewhat fiesty, I think we may see a fair few bookings in this game and at the odds of 3/1, Idrissa Gueye is a great option to back here. The Everton man has seven bookings from his 15 appearances in the Premier League this season and in such a key game, this makes sense to back as an additional bet.

Everton have the better record of the two teams in matches against each other, although the very first game between the two, an FA Cup tie in March 1907 finished as a draw, with Everton winning the replay 4-0 four days later.

Since then, Everton have won 26 games between the teams out of a total of 61 played. The Eagles have managed just 15 wins and 20 games have been drawn.

Palace's recent record against Everton is also poor with just two wins in the last 21 games between the two, Everton winning 10 games in that time with nine matches finishing as a draw.

Paul Tierney will be the official in charge of the game on Monday night, and it will be the fourth time this season he has managed a game involving Crystal Palace and the second time he has refereed Everton.

Palace drew two of those games (0-0 v Fulham and 2-2 at Manchester City) but lost 5-0 to Arsenal in the other. Everton were 1-0 winners at the City Ground when Tierney refereed their game away to Nottingham Forest back in December.

The official has handed out 50 red cards in 15 previous Premier League games, with 3 red cards also being administered by the official.

Paul Tierney will be assisted by Lee Betts and Simon Long, with Tony Harrington the fourth official. Stuart Attwell will be on VAR duties with Dan Cook assisting.
