England play their first match since losing to Spain in the 2023 Women's World Cup Final. They turn their attention to the new UEFA Women's Nations League and host Scotland. Also in this group are the Netherlands and Belgium with only the side top of the table going into the finals. Before the loss to Spain the English side had won six matches in a row (including penalty shootouts). They will want to put that World Cup final defeat behind them and attempt to add the Nations League title to the European crown that they already hold. Keira Walsh will be missing for this match The Lionesses last played Scotland four years ago and beat them 2-1. Rather than being played at Wembley, this Nations League fixture is being staged at Sunderland's Stadium of Light. The popularity of women's football continues ahead of the new WSL season and there'll be a sold-out 40,000 crowd.
Scotland will be without Erin Cuthbert for this Nations League game. They will have Sam Kerr, Lauren Davidson and Caroline Weir fit for this match though. The Tartan Army come into this match having won their last four games. That run began with a friendly win over Australia but their opponents fielded a much-changed line-up for that match. Regardless of that though they have improved in recent years and this won't be too easy a game for England. It should still be an English victory though with them ahead at both half and full time.
