England W - Portugal W: Form Analysis
After failing to qualify for the Nations League Finals by a single goal difference in the last edition, England’s knockout stage hopes this season are now out of their hands. All they can do is win their final two games and hope that Spain fluff their lines.
The Lionesses got into this situation by suffering a shock 3-2 defeat to Belgium in their last match, when they conceded three goals in the space of 30 minutes and couldn’t close the deficit.
However, the hosts have been very good at home in this competition, having won both their games at Wembley, scoring six goals while maintaining clean sheets in both matches.
The last two matches between these sides across all competitions ended level!
Meanwhile, after making a very promising start to the competition, taking four points from their first two games, Belgium were brought crashing back to earth last month by Spain.
As Navegadoras lost 4-2 at home to La Roja on April 4 before shipping seven on the road four days later, with all of those goals from the second match being scored in the space of an hour. Their 7-1 loss on matchday four is the biggest defeat in Group A this season.
The visitors have won one and lost one of their two away games in this competition. Notably, Belgium have conceded 12 goals to date, which is the second-most in Group A.

England W & Portugal W Squad Analysis
On Tuesday, Mary Earps announced her shock retirement from international football after losing her spot in goal to Chelsea shot-stopper Hannah Hampton.
The Lionesses are now likely to move Khiara Keating into the backup role for Hampton, while Ann Moorhouse is expected to be brought in as the team’s third-choice goalie.
England were also handed a major injury blow in the lead-up to the match, with defender Ella Morris sustaining an ACL injury during training, which will also see her miss the team’s title defence at Euro 2025.
Man City’s Laura Blindkilde has been called up as Morris’s replacement for this month’s matches.
Carole Costa is the only Portugal player to score more than once in this competition!
Francisco Neto has alternated between Patricia Morais and Ines Pereira in goal in this competition, though the latter is widely expected to get the nod between the sticks at Wembley.
Ana Borges and Dolores Silva have both been called up for this month’s Nations League games and will be hoping to make an impact in some capacity this week.
