England look to continue their unbeaten run in the FIFA Under-20 World Cup. They take on Italy in the last 16 with the winners facing a quarter final against either Colombia or Slovakia. The Three Lions won this title six year ago with players such as Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Kyle Walker-Peters and Dean Henderson going on to become regular Premier League stars. This is their first time in the Under-20 World Cup since then having failed to qualify in 2019. No 2021 event was held to the pandemic. Back on the world stage, it's gone well for England so far and they finished top of Group E, a point clear of Uruguay. They had wins over Tunisia and Uruguay. The latter saw them win 3-2 thanks to a 96th minute goal. Their final group match was a goalless draw with Iraq. That draw extended their unbeaten run to ten games.
Italy finished third in 2017 and fourth two years later. The last five times they have qualified for these finals they have reached at least the last eight. They finished second behind Brazil in their group with two wins and a defeat. They began the tournament with a stunning win over Brazil. The Italians scored three goals without reply in the first half. Brazil pulled two goals back in the second but it was not enough to get back into the game, losing 3-2. Italy then lost 2-0 to Nigeria before securing qualification with a 3-0 win over the Dominican Republic. Their last match against England was three years ago and ended in a 1-1 draw.
