Aryna Sabalenka will battle Emma Navarro at this year’s US Open semi-finals. The duo’s Thursday match will be their third career meeting. Read on for our preview and prediction.

Navarro defeated Paula Badosa in straight sets in the quarter-finals to achieve her best performance at a major. The American is having a tremendous year. She was a quarter-finalist in Wimbledon and had also reached the fourth round at the French Open.

The 23-year-old has compiled a 52-20 record, securing 31 of her victories on hard courts. One of those was a 2-1 success against Sabalenka at Indian Wells. She will be hoping for the same as she targets her maiden Grand Slam title.

The 13th seed’s run in New York has seen her storm into the WTA top 10; she’s eighth in the live ranking.

Second seed Sabalenka is in the semi-finals at Flushing Meadows for the fourth successive time. After back-to-back semi-final defeats, the reigning Australian Open champion was able to reach the final last year.

She however lost to Gauff in a come-from-behind victory for the American. The 26-year-old has been in superb form at the competition this year, winning four of her five matches in straights. She defeated seventh seed Qinwen Zheng by the loss of three games in the quarters.

That result extended her current winning streak to 10 matches. Sabalenka, who defeated Navarro at the French Open in their last encounter, has compiled a 44-11 record.

The winner here will battle one of Beatriz Haddad Maia, Karolina Muchova, Jessica Pegula or Iga Swiatek for the title.
