Elena-Gabriela Ruse bids to reach the main draw of the Italian Open. Ruse faces Laura Siegemund in the final qualifying round of this outdoor clay court tournament. Here's our match prediction.
Ruse is the world number 88 and that's 13 places above her opponent. The 27-year-old has won four of her six matches played on clay this year. Her clay court season began well with a run to the semi-finals of the Open de Rouen. That run was ended by the eventual champion Elina Svitolina.
It didn't go so well for her in Madrid as she lost in the first qualifying round to Teodora Kostovic in three sets. Ruse returned to winning ways in this tournament and defeated Solana Sierra in straight sets in the first qualifying round.
The Romanian is playing in this tournament for only the second time, having lost in the first round two years ago.
Laura Siegemund has struggled so far on clay this year. The 37-year-old lost her first three matches of the season with defeats in Bogota, Stuttgart and Madrid. Two of those defeats did see the German take her opponent to a final set.
Her first win finally came in the first qualifying round with a win over Daria Saville in straight sets. We tip Ruse to win this match.
