Following an entertaining international break, we return to league football this weekend, and in our featured match in La Liga, we will see Barcelona look to take a step closer to securing the title when they travel to Estadio Manuel Martinez Valero to take on Elche this Saturday. Barcelona currently sits atop La Liga and is the out-and-out favourites to lift the trophy at the end of the season. They currently have 68 points in 26 matches and opened a commanding 12-point lead over their closest rival Real Madrid in second place when they defeated Los Blancos in their last match before the break. Barca has won five and lost one of their last six matches, and have an excellent away record this season with 11 wins and just two losses in 13 matches on the road. The visitors have gotten the better of this opponent in recent seasons and are unbeaten in their last nine encounters, eight of which were wins.

In complete contrast to their opponents, Elche looks destined for relegation this season. The hosts are languishing at the bottom of La Liga and are a long way behind Almeria, who are second-from-bottom. Elche has managed only 13 points this season and is also 13 points behind the side above them. Elche lost their last match 2-0 to Real Sociedad, which was their fourth in their last six matches, along with one draw and one win. The hosts unsurprisingly have the worst record by some margin in home fixtures this season, winning just one of their 13 matches at Estadio Manuel Martinez Valero, along with eight losses and four draws. Elche will not expect much in this match and will likely hope to merely contain the margin of defeat in this one.
