Dominic Thiem is the seventh seed for this tournament and has reached the last four without dropping a set. He didn't get the chance to put that to the test in the quarter-finals as his opponent Gaels Monfils withdrew giving Thiem a walkover into this semi-final. This is his best run in 2019 but you sense his season is warming up just in time for the clay season where he is at his strongest.

Milos Raonic is the 13th seed and won this tournament three years ago. He's managed to reach the last four without having to face a seeded opponent. He had to go to three sets in his third round tie aganst Marcos Giron but otherwise has had straight sets wins. The quarter-final saw him defeat lucky loser Miomir Kecmanovic and won that one for the loss of seven games. Raonic is in his first semi-final of the year after two quarter-finals down under in January. The pair have only met twice in the past and both were won by Raonic in straight sets. Thiem has had a bit of a rest before this game but Raonic looks in the stronger form at present and can win this to reach his second Indian Wells final.
