Swedish side Djurgardens take on Slovenia’s Maribor Branik in Thursday's UEFA Conference League playoff first-leg. The Blaranderna have solid home form heading into this tie and will be confident of getting a result to take into the second leg in Slovenia against the Vijolicasti. What does our prediction have to say about this evenly-contested first-leg match?
The home side has won both its home games in the Conference League this season, scoring three goals on each occasion. Progres of Luxembourg was defeated 3-0 in the home leg, before the Swedes lost 1-0 in the return. Then, in the Third qualifier, they drew 1-1 against Ilves, before winning the second leg 3-1 at home to progress 4-2 on aggregate.
However, they did stumble at the weekend when they were defeated 2-0 at home by AIK Stockholm in the Allvenskan. They remain third in the table after 18 domestic games.
Maribor Branik’s form in European competition is easy to follow. They have lost all three away games but are unbeaten at home. They began in the Europa League, but after drawing 2-2 against Botev Plovdiv at home, they lost the second leg 2-1 to go out of the competition 4-3 on aggregate.
In the Conference League's Second round, they beat Uni Craiova 2-0 at home but progressed 4-3 on aggregate despite a 3-2 loss in the away leg. In the Third qualifying round, they beat Vojvodina 2-1 at home but lost 1-0 away, eventually progressing 4-2 via a penalty shootout.
