Western Province welcomes Griquas to the Cape Town Stadium for this match in the Carling Currie Cup. The home team are in 6th place on the table with 13 points while the visitors are in third position with 26 points. Western Province lost their last match 33-10 against the Lions which ended any slim hopes they had of advancing to the playoffs. They will be particularly disappointed with the loss as they dominated possession in the game but struggled to get over the tryline. Western Province have only won two of their ten matches this season and this can be partly blamed on the fact that they had to split their teams between the Currie Cup and the URC. Their home record has been just as poor as they have only won one match at home, losing in the last three at home.

Griquas shocked the league leading Cheetahs in the last round as they thrashed them 46-18 to hand the Free State team their first loss of the season. The bonus point victory has taken them into the top four and they now lead the fifth placed Sharks by 4 points although the Durban side has a game in hand. Griquas will be confident coming into this match as they have a full strength team to choose from and they have won the last three matches against Western Province. A win for the Griquas in this match coupled with a loss for the Pumas will guarantee their spot in the playoffs.
