After their Welsh derby draw, Cardiff City will be heading to Pride Park, where they will meet Derby County. On the opening week, Cardiff drew as Derby suffered defeat. With Cardiff holding a recent head-to-head success, our prediction goes in favor of an away win.
Derby are having a difficult campaign already, having lost back-to-back matches so far. In their season opener, the Rams fell 2-1 to promoted Championship side Lincoln in the League Cup.
Switching to the league, they couldn’t hold on to the lead against Charlton, conceding twice in the second half to lose 2-1. Derby’s case is made even tougher after lead striker Sammie Szmodics limped off with a thigh issue after scoring.
Cardiff City will be looking at Derby’s troubles with a smile as they seek to build on an unbeaten return to the Championship. To start it off was a 3-2 win against Swindon in the first round of the League Cup.
They would follow it up with a 1-1 draw against fellow Welsh side Wrexham in the Championship. One major concern the visitors will be carrying is the fact that in both matches, they had to come from behind.
The Bluebirds' boss Brian Barry-Murphy acknowledged that they haven’t hit their best yet. The promoted side will, however, take heart from past dominance in this fixture, having won four of the last five meetings.
