Denmark caused a massive surprise on Wednesday when beating World and European champions Norway. That saw them win Grioup I in the Women's European Handball Championships. They now take on Montenegro, who finished second in Group II. The win on Wednesday was their first win over Norway since 2012. Rather than hanging onto second spot in the group, they won it and their confidence must have been massively boosted by that victory. The Danes lost their opening match in these championships to Slovenia. Since then though they have won five matches in a row and that also includes a victory over Sweden.

Montenegro won this title in 2012 but this is their first finish higher than eighth since 2014. They finished 22nd in last year's World Championships, so it's a massive improvement for them. They won all three groups when topping Group D in the preliminary round but then lost their 100% record when being defeated by France in Group II of the main round. They then squeezed past Romania (who finished bottom of the group) 35-34 to ensure this semi-final place. Montenegro played a much weakened line-up in their final game against the Neherlands and lost 42-25. Their top players will be back for this semi-final but Denmark look to be in the better form.
