David Goffin is ranked 23rd in the world and seeded 21st for this tournament. He is yet to make it past the fourth round at Wimbledon. Twice before he has reached the last sixteen doing so in 2015 and 2016. This year has seen him beaten in the third round of both the Australian and French Grand Slam tournaments. His best win in this tournament came in the third round when he came from two sets to one down to beat 11th seeded Daniil Medvedev. A win in this match would most likely see him in a quarter final against number one seed Novak Djokovic.

Fernando Verdasco is ranked 37th in the world and is seeking to make it into his second Wimbledon quarter final. His only previous one came in 2013 when losing a five-set thriller to Andy Murray. The past three years have seen Verdasco lose in the first round in this tournament. He avoided a fourth straight first round exit and then ended the hopes of 30th seed Kyle Edmund in the second round, winning in five sets. The pair have had six previous meetings and both have won three of them. However, Goffin has won three of their last four games and two of Verdasco's wins came six years ago.
