Lilli Tagger takes on eighth seed Daria Snigur in the final of this year’s Prague Open, hoping to end a memorable week on a high. This is their first career meeting, and our prediction backs Snigur, who is gunning for a third success in a final this year.
Daria Snigur has made it to her first tour final and now looks to replicate the form that has brought her this far. The Ukrainian, who has lost just one set so far in her second appearance in Prague, beat Tereza Valentova in the semis.
Defeating the fifth seed, who had in the quarters eliminated the Prague defending champion, must be a big shot in the arm. Now up to 44th in the live ranking, Snigur, who has won two lower-level titles this season, has compiled a 40-12 record.
Tagger has been at this level before, but just like the debutant Snigur, she is also seeking a first tour crown. The teenager played her first tour final at last year’s event in Jiangxi but lost without claiming a set.
She will hope for much better tidings, and after a shock semi-final win, she will be even more confident of victory. Tagger defeated the in-form Barbora Krejcikova in three sets to reach the final.
The Austrian fought her way from 1-0 down to secure victory in just under three hours. Tagger's performances this week have lifted her to new heights in the WTA, and she is now up to 51st place in the live ranking.
