All ten of the top seeds in the women's singles have been defeated before the quarter final. That means 11th seed Angelique Kerber is the highest seed left in the tournament and she's second favourite to win the title behind Serena Williams. Kerber has only lost one set on her way to the last eight, dropping the first set to Claire Liu in the second round before rallying to take the match. The German is bidding to reach her second Wimbledon final having lost to Serena Williams two years ago. She's only got past the quarter final stage twice though with her other semi-final appearance being in 2012. Last year was a disappointing one for Kerber with no quarter final appearances in any of the Grand Slams but she's turned it around this year with a sem-final in Australia and quarter final in France and now a last eight appearance here.

Her opponent is the 14th seed Darlia Kasatkina who didn't drop a set in the first three rounds before losing a tie-break to Alison van Utyvank before winning the next two sets. This is only her third appearance at Wimbledon and the 21-year-old had never previously got past the third round before. She's on a good run of form having reached the quarter finals of the French Open  The Russian played two grass court warm-up tournaments and at Eastbourne reached the last eight where she lost to Kerber in three sets with two going to a tie-break.The pair are 3-3 in previous meetings with Kerber having won two of the last three and she can win this match with her Wimbledon experience being the key factor.
