Daniil Medvedev vs Stan Wawrinka Prediction & Betting Tips - ATP Australian Open

Daniil Medvedev finished 2019 strongly and has made a good start to the new year. The fourth seed takes on veteran Stan Wawrinka who is seeded 15th for this tournament. Medvedev piled up the ranking points in the second half of last year most notably reaching the final of the US Open where he lost to Rafael Nadal and beat Wawrinka in the last eight. He could end up meeting the Spaniard in the semi-finals of this tournament. Medvedev is only 23 and he could be the player that breaks the strangehold that the 30+ aged players have on the mens's singles game. He won four of his five games in the recent ATP Cup including wins over three players ranked in the top 20 and his only loss was to Novak Djokovic in three sets. To reach the last sixteen in this tournament, Medvedev has only dropped one set, that was in his first round win over Frances Tiafoe.

Stan Wawrinka missed out on both the Davis Cup and ATP Cup. He warmed up for this Grand Slam by entering the tournament in Doha and lost in the last four to Corentin Moutet (who lost in the first round here). He dropped three sets in his first two matches in this tournament and had to go to five sets to get past Andreas Seppi in the second round. The next round saw him face 19th seeded John Isner who retired in the second set after losng the first. Wawrinka won this title back in 2014 but the last two years have seen him fall at the second round stage. His last nine Grand Slam tournaments have produced just two quarter final appearances.
