Qualifier Danielle Collins and the unseeded Marie Bouzkova will meet at the Qatar Open. They will square off in the second round with the winner going on to play either Cori Gauff or Katerina Siniakova next. Danielle Collins has been in good form in Doha and has won her last two matches without dropping a set. She defeated 13th seed Veronika Kudermetova in the first round to advance to this round for the second time. The American, who made her Doha debut last season, will now seek to go past the second round for the first time. Collins has had a strong start to the year and has won eight of the 12 matches she has so far contested. The former world number seven has now moved up three places to 60th in the live ranking. She defeated Bouzkova in their first meeting six seasons ago in Newport Beach.

Marie Bouzkova won the last time she was paired up against Collins. This was two seasons ago on a grass court in Wimbledon. She will be hoping for another similar outcome as she also targets making her main draw debut here memorable. Bouzkova made her Doha debut last season but was unable to go past the qualifying rounds. The Czech number six, who is up one place to 34th in the live ranking, defeated Sofia Kenin in the first round. The match lasted for almost three hours with the first and third sets needing Bouzkova to win seven games. It was her fourth win of a topsy-turvy start to the year and she now has her record tied at 4-4.
