Unseeded Daniel Evans bids to end a poor run of form but has a tough task here. He takes on the 13th seed in the first round of the French Open. Whoever wins this match will be up against either Flavio Cobolli or qualified Hamad Medjedovic. Evans is down to 62nd in the live rankings but is much lower in the Live ATP Race. The British player is 175th in those rankings and really struggling for wins at present. His final tournament before this clay court Grand Slam was in Lyon and he lost in the first round. His only sign of any good form of late has been when reaching the last eight in a Bordeaux Challenger Tour event but no players in the top 100 were beaten. He failed to get past round one in Monte Carlo, Barcelona and Rome. The second round was reached in Marrakech but he received a bye to that stage. Including last year's form, Evans has now lost his last nine ATP Tour clay court matches. His record at Roland Garros is poor too and he's won just one of eight matches played.

Holger Rune has only played in this Grand Slam on two occasions. Both saw him get to the last eight and he'll hope to have another good run this year. Rune is 13th in the live rankings and 18th in the ATP Race. The quarter-finals were reached in Monte Carlo and the last four in Munich. His last two clay court tournaments have seen him lose in the last 32. 2023 saw him get to two clay court finals in Monte Carlo and Rome. Perhaps he needs to play in Bavaria as his two ATP clay court titles have come in the Bavarian Open. We tip Rune to win this match in straight sets.
