The 31-30-4 New Jersey Devils head to Dallas to take on the 40-18-9 Stars, early on Friday morning. The Stars have been flying in front of the net this season, putting three past the Florida Panthers in a 3-4 defeat last time out. The Panthers are the second-best defence in the league with three the most they have shipped in their last 21 games so the Stars made them work hard. Despite that, they will be unhappy with the final result as they took a 3-0 lead in the game before being overhauled. Three of the four Panthers goals were power play tallies so the Stars will be glad to be taking on a team who are 30th of the 32 with the man advantage since the 1st of February. Dallas has six 20+ goal scorers, dangerous across multiple lines.
It has been a tough season for the Devils. All the success last year has not been backed up with the team barely above .500 and looking increasingly likely to miss out on a playoff berth. This is the second of four games in a row on the road, losing the first of those to the New York Rangers with trips to the Arizona Coyotes and Vegas Golden Knights still to come. Making a coaching change has worked wonders in both Edmonton and Los Angeles this season but the Devils move has not gone the same way. Last season they were a top 10 defence but this year, they have slipped to 27th, a drop that has cost them. Jack Hughes has had an exceptional season, a point away from 100 but it has not been enough to overcome the frailties on the blue line and in net.
