Early on Wednesday morning the 44-17-4 Florida Panthers will travel to Dallas to take on the 40-17-9 Stars. Dallas has won five games straight, scoring 24 goals in the process. This is the first of five straight home games for the Stars, a great opportunity for them to cement their place at the top of the Central Division. There are only 16 games to go for them so they could not have hit a winning streak at a better time. They have done well not to be too reliant on any one player with nine having 42+ points this season. Jason Robertson leads the way with 65, just a point shy of 300 in his career with this his 277th game. Their issue has come between the pipes, Jake Oettinger has a save percentage of just .900 after improving with each of his three career seasons so far, notching .911, .914, .919. The 2023/24 season has been a big step backwards for him.
The Panthers won the Presidents’ Trophy two seasons back and are on top of the league with the most points again as they bid to win another. They are 16-3 in their last 19 games but they have had their measure taken by the Philadelphia Flyers who take credit for two of those defeats. In 12 of those 19, the Panthers have scored four or more with Sam Reinhart having a career year with 45 goals. Reinhart picked up three points in the first meeting between these teams in December and has had six goals in his last six games after seven without finding the net. Sam Bennett will play his 600th career game, scoring against his old team the Calgary Flames in the Panthers' most recent outing, a 5-1 home win.
