11th placed Crystal Palace host Fulham who are two places above them. Palace are only behind their opponents on goal difference and have a game in hand on them. Although both sides look to be in a relatively safe position, that’s not really the case. They are both only six points above the relegation zone so a poor run of form would change their season for the worse. Palace have won two of their last three league games but the final match before the World Cup break saw them lose 1-0 at relegation threatened Nottingham Forest. Palace may have to rely on their home form to stay out of trouble. They have won four out of seven in the Premier League this season and the last three have all been won. Not many goals though with Palace only scoring 10 at Selhurst Park and eight conceded. Both teams have scored in five of their last six home league games.

Fulham were probably thankful the World Cup break came when it did. The good start they’d made to the season was in danger of being undone after a run of just one point from three games. They have only won two of their seven away league games this season with 10 goals scored. Four of the last six away league matches have been lost and they have a very tricky fixture list in the coming weeks. Each of their last five away Premier League fixtures has seen both teams get on the scoresheet. However, Fulham have conceded at least twice in their last six away league fixtures. Only three teams have conceded more than Fulham in the Premier League this season. It may well be that they need to strengthen their defence in the January transfer window if they want to avoid a relegation battle.
