Looking to avoid a second league defeat in a row to start the Championship campaign, Coventry City host an upbeat Oxford United. This match number two of the campaign will be played at the Coventry Building Society Arena on Friday, and our prediction is for the visitors to keep the hosts under check.
Coventry lost a great chance to qualify for the playoffs last season. That was largely due to their poor form to end the campaign, losing five of their last league matches. Things didn’t change much, and they started this league campaign with another loss, a 1-0 defeat against Stoke.
Going back to the previous season, that makes it three defeats in a row for the hosts. Oxford started life back in the second tier in the best possible fashion, defeating Norwich City 2-0. Goals from Thomas Harris and Cameron Brannagan were enough to give them full points.
The visitors also had a positive start to their league cup campaign, defeating Peterborough United by a 2-0 scoreline. Tyler Goodhram opened their scoring, while Matt Phillips doubled their lead just before halftime. That result extended their good start to this campaign, winning three of their last four matches.
The last time these sides met in a league match was back in August 2019, when the teams dished out a 3-3 draw. The last time they played was in January of this year, when Coventry defeated Oxford 6-2 in the FA Cup.
