Flavio Cobolli meets his first real hurdle at Wimbledon when he faces Czech No. 1 Jakub Mensik in the third round. From this second meeting between them, the winner will face Marin Cilic or Jaume Munar next. We have a prediction for the match below.

So far it has been a stroll for Cobolli, but here he will have to be at his best after two easy opening rounds. In the first, Cobolli beat qualifier Beibit Zhukayev, then met another inexperienced head in Jack Pinnington Jones, a wildcard.

He won both in straight sets. Cobolli has never reached the fourth round at Wimbledon, and by the opponent he faces, that stat could stand for another year at the least.

Jakub Mensik may be stepping here as the favorite, but his grass career is yet to pick up well. He has compiled a modest 6-7 record on this surface and will look to level it when he squares up with Cobolli.

In four-set wins, the Czech has eliminated Hugo Gaston and Marcos Giron in the earlier two rounds. He shouldn’t find this a tougher challenge than the earlier two.

On the hardcourts of Helsinki two years ago, Mensik downed Cobolli in straight sets. That still stands as their only meeting thus far. He will be a favorite to add to his only win over the Italian.
