Flavio Cobolli vs Daniel Altmaier Prediction & Betting Tips - ATP Hamburg Open

Unseeded pair Flavio Cobolli and Daniel Altmaier face each other in the first round of the clay court Hamburg Open. The winner will meet either Thiago Seyboth Wild or eighth seed Zhizhen Zhang in round two. Cobolli is 48th in the live rankings and 44th in the ATP Race.

The 22-year-old makes his return to clay courts after a reasonably successful time on grass. He reached the last eight in Eastbourne and lost in five sets to Frances TIafoe in the second round at Wimbledon. Before that, the Italian enjoyed a better time on clay.

The semi-finals were reached in Geneva with wins including beaten top-16 ranked Ben Shelton. That remains his best performance in 2024  This is his first match against Altmaier and even though it's in Germany he will be hopeful of securing a win.

Daniel Altmaier is 71st in the ATP live rankings but four places lower in the Race. The German had a similar Wimbledon to that of his opponent, losing a five-setter in the second round. That was the only grass court tournament he has played this year.

Most of the last few months has been spent playing on clay courts. Three Challenger Tour events on this surface in June produced a quarter-final and a run to the title decider in Sassuolo. It hadn't been going so well on the main ATP Tour with four of his last five clay court matches being lost.

He's only reached one ATP Tour quarter-final this year and that was on a hard court in January. We tip Cobolli to get the win here.
