Two teams in dire need of three points will clash when Clermont host Rennes in a Ligue 1 encounter on Wednesday. Poor run of form has left Clermont stuck at the foot of the table while Rennes are 13th and also courting relegation. Clermont battled hard but came out unstuck in their last outing against heavyweights Marseille, losing 2-1 at Stade Velodrome. The loss saw the Lancers’ winless run extended to five games, leaving them three points from safety. Clermont’s poor run extends to their home matches. They have managed just a win at home all season so far. They will however draw confidence from the fact that they have won their last two home games against Rennes.

Rennes halted their three-game losing streak when they secured a 0-0 draw with Toulouse over the weekend. A poor run in recent matches has left Rennes sitting just three points from the relegation zone. Discipline has also been an issue in Rennes recent matches with seven red cards being issued in their last nine games. Four of the seven red cards were shown to Rennes players, though none will be suspended for this game. Participating in the Europa League has seemingly affected Rennes’ league form. They are yet to win any game after Thursday night action. Rennes have however secured a place in the competition’s Round of 32.
