Christopher O'Connell vs Nicolás Jarry Prediction & Betting Tips - ATP US Open

26th seed Nicolas Jarry faces unseeded Australian Christopher O'Connell in the US Open first round. The winner will take on either qualifier Mattio Bellucci or wild card Stan Wawrinka next.  Here's our first round match prediction.

Jarry has a tough draw later in this tournament. He'd scheduled to face top seed Jannik Sinner in the last 32. The Chilean reached that stage of this hard court Grand Slam last year, his best performance here.

Jarry hasn't been in the best of form of late but his last match was a close one against in-form Lorenzo Musetti. That hard court match was lost in three sets, two going to a tie-break. A side bet on one in this match might be a good idea as Jarry has played four in his last two matches. 

Clay is his preferred surface but Jarry did reach a hard court quarter-final in Adelaide at the start of this year. He lost to Alex de Minaur last year but should have better luck against this Australian.

While Jarry is 27th in the live rankings, his opponent is down to 100th. He reached the second round of this tournament last year but in 2024 has only won one of his three matches played in Grand Slams.

O'Connell has only won one of his last three matches and that was against a player ranked outside the top 500. He's also had some injury problems, having to retire from a match against Arthur Rinderknech in Montreal after just three games.

He also retired from a match in this year's Rome Masters. Of his last 12 matches played on all surfaces, only three have been won. We tip Jarry to get the win in this match.
