Both Nick Kyrgios and Cristian Garin are yet to reach a Grand Slam semi-final. That will change after this match but will it be the tempermental Australian or cooler Chilean who gets to the last four. What we do know is that an unseeded player will be battling it out to get into the final. Kyrgios is world ranked 40 and that's just three places above that of his opponent. The Australian is in his second Wimbledon quarter final, the other being eight years ago. He doesn't play regularly on the circuit but when he does, good results are achieved. That includes two semi-finals in his Wimbledon warm-up events in Stuttgart and Halle. This tournament has been the usual mix of excellent serving and appalling on-court behaviour. If he can focus on the match rather than calling the umpire dumb, he has an excellent chance of making it to his first semi-final.

Cristian Garin didn't make a good start in his early days at Wimbledon. His first three visits all ended in first round defeats. That all changed last year when making it to the fourth round before losing in straight sets to Novak Djokovic. This is a landmark tournament for him as it's the first time he's made it past the fourth round of a Grand Slam. He's also never got to the semi-final of a Masters 1000 event. His ranking has slipped this year after beginning 2022 in 17th position. Add him to the list of players who wish there were ranking points available in this Grand Slam. Garin has only reached one semi-final this year, a clay court tournament held in Houston. Both of his grass court warm-up matches were lost but much better form has been shown at Wimbledon. Wins have come against Elias Ymer, Hugo Grenier, 29th seeded Jenson Brooksby (in four sets) and then coming from two sets down to beat 19th seed Alex de Minaur. That showed fighting spirit but he's now up against another Australian who excels on this surface. Back Kyrgios to win and have a side bet on there being a tie-break.
