Ninth ranked Sweden have never failed to qualify for the Women's World Cup finals. Only once have they not reached the knock-out stages and were runners-up in 2003. They are in the same group as defending champions, the USA, Thailand and their opponents in this opening group fixture, Chile. Sweden lost in the final of the 2016 Olympic Games and the last eight of the 2017 European Championships. 2019 began with a poor display at the Algarve Cup losing to Germany, Portugal and Canada. Recent friendlies have gone better though with wins over Austria and South Korea.

Chile are ranked 39th in the world and are competing in their first ever Women's World Cup finals. They are in terrible form coming into this tournament with their last nine games producing two draws and seven losses. The two draws were against Scotland and Colombia but they have lost to Germany, the Netherlands and twice to Jamaica who are ranked 53rd in the world. Most of their losses have been narrow ones apart from  7-0 thrashing by the Netherlands. Go for Sweden to win this match and be ahead at both half and full time.
