Both nations are off to a slow start after each taking just a single point from their first two games. Peru would hold on to earn a point in a 0-0 draw in a result that Reynoso will likely have been pleased with. They were only minutes away from securing another goalless draw at home against heavily-favored Brazil before conceding in the 90th minute for a 1-0 defeat. The string or results means that Peru have now failed to win in their last three while managing only a single win from their last five overall.
