Chelsea - Everton: Form Analysis

Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino will be happy that his side have recorded their longest unbeaten run in the Premier League this season of late, going seven games without defeat (winning three, drawing four). Things are far from on track at Chelsea however after a desperately disappointing season for the Londoners in the Premier League, although they still stand a chance of silverware, although they face Manchester City in the FA Cup Semi Final in a week or so. After winning just one of their first seven home games this season, Chelsea have now won six of the last eight, losing one and drawing one. Last weekend the Londoners drew 2-2 away to Sheffield United.

Opponents Everton won't be too unhappy playing this game away from home, as they have picked up more points on the road than at Goodison this season. They ended a run of 13 games without a win with a 1-0 win over Burnley last weekend, a hugely important win especially considering that the team has been penalised a further two points for more financial fair play failures. That points deduction leaves them tied with Nottingham Forest and Luton on 25 points, but the Toffees have the best goal difference of the three, plus a game in hand. However, their position is precarious now, but after going two games unbeaten, this will be a real test of their mettle.

Chelsea & Everton Squad Analysis

Chelsea's lengthy injury list shows no sign of abating at the moment. Six Chelsea players are definitely out of the game with Everton. Levi Colwill, Wes Fofana, Reece James, Romeo Lavia, Christopher Nkunku and Lesley Ugochukwu are all still battling their way back to fitness. Goalkeepeer Robert Sanchez and winger Raheem Sterling have both been ill during the week but could be fit to play. Axel Disasi and Enzo Fernandez have knocks and are being assessed with their ability to play still unknown. The only positive is that Ben Chilwell has been able to return to some facets of first team training, although whether he will be fit to play remains to be seen. Cole Palmer however has been declared fit and the young midfielder has been Chelsea's standout performer this season.

Everton have fewer injury concerns in total, but manager Sean Dyche will have a number of players undergoing late fitness tests ahead of the Chelsea game. Dele Alli and Lewis Dobbin are both ruled outm but Amadou Onana, who is managing a knock, has been passed fit and Idrissa Gueye will play after his wife gave birth this week. Those likely to undergo fitness tests on Monday are Dominic Calvert-Lewin, James Garner and Arnaut Danjuma. Garner and Calvert-Lewin are more likely to play in the game of the three.

Chelsea - Everton Key Points

  1. 12 of Chelsea's last 13 games and all of their last nine games have seen both teams score.
  2. Only Sheffield United have scored fewer than Everton's 32 Premier League goals this season. However, the Toffees have conceded just 42, which is ten better than Chelsea's defensive record.
  3. Eight of Chelsea's last nine games and 11 of their last 13 in the Premier League have seen Over 2.5 goals scored
  4. Everton have lost five and drawn three of their last eight away games. They have scored just four goals in those games, conceding 13. Both teams have scored in 5 of their last 7 games.
  5. The Toffees were 2-0 winners when the teams met at Goodison Park earlier this season. Abdoulaye Doucoure (54) and Lewis Dobbin (90+2) scoring the goals for Everton.

Our Chelsea vs Everton Prediction

Chelsea face Everton with the home fans wondering what version of Chelsea will turn up. Will it be the team that only managed draws with Burnley and Sheff Utd of late, or the team that came back superbly to beat Manchester United in their last home game? Everton fans will know their position is very, very dangerous and so points are crucial. Data suggests a few more goals being scored in this game, but for which teams is more difficult to say. Our Chelsea v Everton prediction therefore is for Both Teams to Score and Over 2.5 Goals to be scored.

Cole Palmer (Chelsea) to score at any time

Chelsea's young midfielder Cole Palmer has been their standout performer this season after signing from Manchester City for a bargain £40m. He is not only Chelsea's top scorer, but he has also been their most effective player and without doubt, their brightest spark this season. If Chelsea are going to score a goal or two (or more) against Everton, then it is likely Palmer will be amongst the goal action. So our second Chelsea v Everton prediction is Cole Palmer to score at any time.
