Chelsea vs Brighton Prediction & Betting Tips - Carabao Cup

The third round of the Carabao Cup will see Chelsea play host to Brighton & Hove Albion on Wednesday. The hosts are currently 14th in the Premier League, while the visitors are up in third place. Chelsea are in a bad way at the moment. The Blues lost their last match 1-0 to Aston Villa, extending their winless run to three consecutive matches. Not only did they fail to win those games, but they also failed to score a single goal in that time. The only victory they have managed this season came over newly-promoted Luton Two last month. In the last round of this competition, they had to come from 1-0 down against AFC Wimbledon despite fielding a fairly strong team. However, with no European football at Stamford Bridge this year, Chelsea will be looking for a solid run in one of the domestic cup competitions. A win here will also do wonders for their confidence which is evidently dwindling at the moment. 

Meanwhile, Brighton were very good in the league last season and seem to have picked up their good form this term. They come into this match off the back of a 3-1 win over AFC Bournemouth, which extended their record to three league wins in a row. Notably, their previous two wins were both 3-1 victories over Manchester United and Newcastle United. The Seagulls were unable to mark their first Europa League match with a win, though, as they were beaten 3-2 by AEK Athens. However, they were extremely impressive in that match and would have taken several positives from their performance. Roberto de Zerbi opted to rest most of his players for their match against The Cherries over the weekend, which suggests we could see the first team fielded in this one.  The visitors are unbeaten in their last four league matches against this opponent, losing only once in a preseason game earlier this year. However, as the away side, they are the marginal outsiders.
