Seven rounds remain in the J1 League; Kyoto Sanga and Cerezo Osaka will be welcoming Kyoto Sanga on matchday 32. As they put their ambitions on the line, below is our prediction of the match.

Hosts Cerezo start the weekend in 10th place and are looking to bounce back after the 3-1 loss to title-chasing Kashima Antlers. After suffering their 10th loss in the league, Cerezo are now staring at the possibility of dropping into the lower half.

Cerezo’s last nine league matches produced just two wins, and they have no clean sheet in 12. They’ve, however, beaten Kyoto twice this season, in the league and cup.

At Kyoto, wins have suddenly dried up. After a run of four straight wins, which put them well into contention for continental football, the visitors went winless in the last three.

The latest of them, against Machida, was particularly painful, as Rafael Elias missed a 74th-minute penalty. They won a second penalty in stoppage time, which Taichi Hara scored to see the match end 1-1.

Their stagnation in the last three matches means they enter the round in third place, trailing second-placed Vissel Kobe by a point as they eye a Champions League Elite spot.

With eight wins in 16 away matches, Kyoto are third among the top-performing travelers.
