The standalone fixture in the Scottish Premiership this Sunday is the Old Firm Derby, with Celtic playing host to Rangers at Celtic Park. The last two matches between these Glaswegian rivals produced seven goals combined, and we’re leaning towards another high-scoring outcome here as our main prediction.
The Hoops will be out for revenge here, as exactly a week ago, they were put to the sword at the Ibrox, losing 3-0 to their arch-rivals in the Scottish League Cup. However, Martin O’Neill’s side have been flawless across the first six games of the league campaign and came out on top (3-1) when these sides met here at Celtic Park back in May this year.
Last week’s victory would have given Derek McInnes and co a massive boost of confidence, but following up here feels more important, as they are already trailing Celtic by five points in the league standings. One key factor playing against the Gers is that they will not have their faithful followers in the stands, given that away fans are banned from all Old Firm league matches this term. Let’s get into the key stats!

Celtic - Rangers: Form Analysis
Celtic have stormed out of the blocks in the Scottish Premiership this season, winning all six of their matches, scoring 14 goals and conceding just three. They beat St. Johnstone 1-0 in their last league game.
Outside of the top flight, the Hoops have been less impressive, though, following up their cup defeat to Rangers last weekend with a 3-1 loss to Ferencvaros in the Europa League on Thursday.
Still, that defeat to Ferencvaros in Europe was the first loss this week’s hosts conceded in their last 11 competitive games at Celtic Park dating back to the middle of February against Hibernian.
However, Celtic have lost two of their last three home league games against Rangers!
Meanwhile, winning the Scottish Prem feels mandatory for Rangers this season after failing to qualify for Europe by losing to Jagiellonia and Jablonec in the UEL and UECL qualifiers, respectively.
However, the Gers kicked off the league season with a draw and a loss in their first two games before winning four in a row ahead of this one. They edged St. Mirren 1-0 at home on Matchday 6.
The visitors' away record has not been great, with three wins in their last six league matches on the road (D1 L2), a period during which they suffered that 3-1 defeat at this venue in May last season.

Celtic & Rangers Squad Analysis
O’Neill opted not to start Benjamin Nygrena or Kasper Hogh in the defeat to Ferencvaros. Both players have already scored three goals apiece in the league this term and are almost certain to be brought back from the off this weekend.
Camillo Duran has made an excellent start to life in Glasgow since arriving from Qarabag in the summer. The Colombian international has already notched up six goal contributions in as many league appearances this term and could be one to watch here.
Celtic will have to make do without Alistair Johnston, Callum Osmand and Jota due to injuries, while Yang Hyun-Jun is away on international duty with South Korea at the 2026 Asian Games.
Will Daniel Neil be the difference-maker in his second Old Firm derby?
After joining from Sunderland in the summer, Neil got his first taste of the Old Firm derby last weekend, and he played the starring role, netting two goals either side of a stunning effort from Kevin Kelsy.
Kelsy is likely to keep his place as the starting number nine this week owing to the injury to skipper Lawrence Shankland. Youssef Chermiti is also ruled out for the foreseeable future due to a cruciate ligament injury.
On the positive side, McInnes could receive a couple of notable boosts this week, with Tuur Rommens and Jose Cifuentes expected to make their returns following stints on the sidelines.

Our Celtic vs Rangers Prediction
While Celtic have not been good in the cup competitions during the early stages of this season, they have been absolutely flying in the Scottish Premiership, winning all six games while averaging three goals scored per 90.
Rangers have been far less prolific this term, but they did smash three unanswered goals past the Hoops a week ago, and they will know the importance of taking all three points from this clash. Five of the last six matches between these sides have ended with 3+ goals, and we fancy that to be the case in this one as well. Our Celtic vs Rangers prediction is over 2.5 goals.
