by Ian John | in Scottish Premiership Predictions
It’s the first Old Firm derby of the Scottish Premiership season this weekend. Celtic face Rangers at Celtic Park with the home side Bhoys hoping to enhance their recent dominance over the ‘Gers with a key win here. What will our prediction be for a match that is often amongst the most unpredictable of matches?
Celtic have had a lengthy run at the top of the Scottish Premiership and although Rangers pushed them hard last season, it was Celtic’s dominance in this fixture that ultimately paved the way for their league title win. In five games against Rangers, they won four and drew the other, with one of those wins coming in the Scottish FA Cup Final.
Philippe Clement will be hoping he can change Rangers' fortunes in the Old Firm game this season. Despite a less than stellar start, Rangers did find form last week heading into this game. However, they are going to have to overcome a run of eight matches without a win at Celtic Park in order to take something positive from this iconic clash.

Celtic - Rangers: Form Analysis
Celtic have started the season in excellent form, much in the same way that they finished last season. They began with a resounding 4-0 home win over Kilmarnock on the opening day and since then have won twice away from home. Defeating Hibs 2-0 and then last weekend getting the better of St. Mirren with a 3-0 victory.
A start to the season which keeps Celtic in their usual position of top of the table.
Rangers lie third in the table with seven points from their three games, their only blip a 0-0 draw on the opening weekend away to Hearts. They followed that with two wins at home, including a 6-0 win over Ross County the last time out. However, their recent record against Celtic, especially at Celtic Park, is dismal and they will know how difficult landing a win here will be.
Celtic have won 12 of the last 13 Scottish Premier League titles, Rangers winning the other back in 2020/21. If Rangers are going to have any chance of ending that level of dominance from Celtic, these are the games they need to win.
Celtic currently have nine points, and have scored nine goals without conceding. Rangers are third with seven points having scored eight goals and conceding just one.

Celtic & Rangers Squad Analysis
Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers is not expected to make too many changes to the team that defeated St. Mirren 3-0 in their last game, barring any transfer deadline day dealings.
Maik Nawrocki and Michael Johnston both remain on the sideline due to injury, but other than that, the Celtic manager has a relatively healthy squad to pick from.
One of his key decisions will be whether to play Adam Idah or Kyogo Furuhashi as the central striker in the front three. Midfield trio of Reo Hatate, Paulo Bernardo and Callum McGregor will likely continue given the excellent start to the season they have enjoyed.
With two goals and two assists this season, Celtic's Nicolas-Gerrit Kuhn is pushing hard for a start.
This derby game has come too soon for Ridvan Yilmaz, Oscar Cortes and Nicolas Raskin as the Rangers trio remain injured and unlikely to be fit for action until mid-September.
However, in form striker Cyriel Dessers and midfielder Rabbi Matondo, who both netted braces in the 6-0 win over Ross County last weekend, are fit to start and will be amongst Rangers' most dangerous attackers.
James Tavernier will continue to be their most potent threat.
Most goals and assists

Our Celtic vs Rangers Prediction
Our prediction for Celtic vs Rangers in the Scottish Premiership is: Celtic to win.
Brendan Rodgers' Celtic have been dominant over Rangers in the last few seasons, especially at home and the data suggests that could be the case again here. The Celts scored four in their only home game this season and have won twice on the road. Rangers have been excellent at home, but were poor in a 0-0 draw away at Hearts. Home advantage has been key in this fixture, especially for Celtic and the data suggests another win for the home team here.
