Second seeded Alexander Zverev takes on Casper Ruud (the sixth seed) in the Miami Masters quarter final. The winner of this match faces either ninth seed Jannik Sinner or unseeded Francisco Cerundolo in the last four. Zverev hasn't had a great year so far and this is only his second time past the last 16. His best performance of the year has been reaching the final in Montpellier, losing to Alexander Bublik. No top 50 players were beaten on the way to that final. He lost in the last 16 in the Australian Open. In Miami, Zverev has beaten Borna Coric (in three sets), Mackenzie McDonald and qualifier Thanasi Kokkinakis.

Casper Ruud has won seven ATP titles (five last year) but all have been in 250 series tournaments. A win at the Masters level would be a massive step forward for him. He's already won a title in Buenos Aires this year but that was on a clay court. He's certainly a player to look out for during the upcoming European clay court season but has played well on the hard courts of Miami in the past week. That's another step forward for him as he'd previously never won a match in this event. He finally got a victory when beating Henri Laaksonen in the second round and has followed that up with wins over 30th seeded Alexander Bublik and tenth seed Cameron Norrie, all without a set being dropped. Ruud has lost two previous matches against Zverev, both being on hard courts last year.  Back Zverev to get a hard fought win here.
