Second seed Cori Gauff will take on the unseeded Caroline Dolehide in the first round of the 2024 Wimbledon Championships. This will be the third career meeting for the two, and the winner will play Anca Todoni or Olga Danilovic in the second round.
Dolehide has never won a main draw match at SW19 and will battle to make sure this isn't the case again here. This is the American’s third main draw appearance and the second in a row. Dolehide has struggled with her form all season and arrives for this tournament while on a losing record.
She has lost more than she has won on every surface and has compiled a 10-17 record. On grass, however, is where she has managed to record her best result. The 25-year-old produced a quarter-final finish in Birmingham as a lucky loser.
Currently, on a two-match skid, Dolehide begins the week up one place to 51st in the live ranking.
Cori Gauff, on the other hand, is set to play her first-ever Grand Slam as one of the top two seeds. The American moved to world number two for the first time after her run to the semi-finals at Roland Garros.
Last year’s US Open champion, Gauff has reached the last four in each of her last three major appearances.
With this impressive streak, she will be confident of a title push here. Wimbledon is the only major in which Gauff hasn’t made it to at least the semi-finals. In her four appearances, she has recorded two fourth-round finishes but last year she suffered a shock first-round exit.
She will be confident this won’t be the case here as she has never lost against Dolehide. Gauff has won both times she has been paired up against her compatriot. She has won both encounters in straight sets with her most recent success coming in her run to the semis in Melbourne.
The 20-year-old made her grass debut in Berlin where she is coming off a semi-final finish.
