Top seed Carlos Alcaraz will face off with the unseeded Zizou Bergs in the second round of the 2025 Japan Open. The winner of their first career meeting will then take on Brandon Nakashima or Marton Fucsovics in the quarter-finals. Read on to find our prediction for this match.

Carlos Alcaraz was in strong form in his opening round match despite having very little time to prepare. Arriving for his Tokyo debut just three days after taking part in the Laver Cup, the Spaniard dominated Sebastian Baez.

He won in straight sets to improve to an incredible 63-7 record. The world number one has won seven titles and finished as runner-up in another two events.

Zizou Bergs, who is also debuting in Tokyo, did not have a convincing start to the tournament. Facing off with Alejandro Tabilo, Bergs battled his way from losing the first set and won in two hours and 45 minutes.

With the second and third sets seeing a tiebreaker contested, the Belgian showed that he is still far from overcoming his struggles this year.

Bergs has compiled a shaky 24-23 record and, before arriving in Tokyo, had won just three of nine outings. Advancing to this round has bumped Bergs two places up and into 43rd place in the live ranking.
