World number one Carlos Alcaraz takes to the court on Monday to face 30th-seed Daniel Evans in the Shanghai Masters round of 32. A spot in the final 16 and a matchup against either 18th-seeed Grigor Dimitrov or 13th-seed Karen Khachanov awaits the winner. Carlos Alcaraz will be looking for yet another competition win in 2023 as his dominance continues. Despite skipping the Australian Open due to injury, Alcaraz has already won six tournaments in 2023. Daniel Evans comes into this matchup following a win in the second round after his opponent Mikhail Kukushkin was forced to retire early. The victory snapped a two match losing streak for Evans which saw the 33-year-old eliminated in his first outing in Chengdu and Beijing. Evans suffered a rough start to 2023 but has since regained some form, winning the Citi Open back in August. The 33rd-ranked Brit still has some way to go in the final few months of the year if he is to avoid having his first losing record since 2017. Evans has 19 wins and 24 losses on the year for a winning mark of 44.2%, some way off his career 60.6% winning percentage. He comes into this encounter as a massive underdog to pull off the upset, which is not surprising considering the season both players are having.
