The Moulay El Hassan Stadium sets the stage for the blockbuster 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations final between Cameroon and Malawi on Sunday evening. A total of 19 goals have been scored in matches involving the Scorchers in this competition, and our prediction is that there will be a few more striking the back of the net in this one.
The Indomitable Lionesses are set to return to the grandest stage of continental football for the first time in a decade this weekend. They were runners-up in the 2016 edition of WAFCON, where they lost to Nigeria, and booked their spot in this year's showpiece event by defeating host nation Morocco in the semi-final last week.
The 2026 WAFCON has delivered several surprises, but none compare to the fairytale that the Scorchers are living. In their first-ever appearance in this competition, Malawi, led by the incredible Chawinga sisters, have taken on all-comers and are now 90 minutes away from one of the greatest stories in footballing history. Let’s get into the key stats!

Cameroon W - Malawi W: Form Analysis
Cameroon have barely put a foot wrong in this year’s WAFCON. They came through the group stage with flying colours, picking up seven points from their three games to top the standings in Group D.
The Indomitable Lionesses then produced one of the shocks of the tournament by beating Nigeria 1-0 in the quarter-final before ousting firm favourites Morocco 3-1 on penalties in the semis.
Cameroon have now lost just one of their last eight matches across all competitions (W6 D1), and only conceded two goals en route to the final of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
Only Morocco have conceded fewer goals in the 2026 WAFCON than Cameroon!
Meanwhile, Malawi secured their spot in the knockout round of this competition with back-to-back victories over Nigeria and Egypt before losing their final group-stage match against Zambia.
The Scorchers then continued their exceptional form with a 2-1 victory over a much-fancied Ghana in the quarter-final, and put Algeria to the sword in the semi-finals, winning the match 3-1.
Indeed, Malawi have not kept a single clean sheet in this tournament, but they have balanced that with their stellar attack, which has scored a tournament-high 12 goals in their five matches.

Cameroon W & Malawi W Squad Analysis
Marie Ngah has been the standout performer for Cameroon in this competition. The Galatasaray forward has scored three of the team’s five goals in the tournament, though she has drawn blank in the last two games.
Michaela Abam came on as a second-half substitute in the last match but was taken off before the final whistle. However, it is understood that it was a tactical move to allow Rose Bella to take one of the penalties in the shootout.
Collete Ndzana was an injury doubt ahead of the semi-final. She managed to feature from the start eventually but was withdrawn at half-time and is listed as a minor doubt for this match.
Can the Indomitable Lionesses’ sturdy defence keep the Chawinga sisters quiet?
Temwa Chawinga gave Malawi a two-goal lead in the semi-final and has been simply sensational in this tournament. The Kansas City striker is the current leading scorer at WAFCON 2026 with five goals.
Equally impressive has been her sister, Tabitha, who bagged a brace against Algeria to take her tally to four goals and two assists in this competition. Indeed, the Chawinga sisters have had a direct hand in 11 of their team’s 12 goals in this tournament.
The Scorchers have just one confirmed injury absentee for this match in Sabinah Thom, who sustained a knee injury in the quarter-final against Zambia that ruled her out of the remainder of the tournament.

Our Cameroon W vs Malawi W Prediction
Cameroon’s greatest strength en route to the 2026 WAFCON final has been their rock-solid defence, which has only conceded twice in five games, but they have not come up against an attack quite like Malawi’s.
The Scorchers have been the Cinderella story in Morocco this year, and while they have been far from perfect at the back, their devastating forward line, spearheaded by the Chawinga sisters, has more than made up for leaky defence. Our Cameroon vs Malawi prediction is BTTS.
