Wednesday’s World Matchplay action kicks off with Cameron Menzies taking on Ross Smith. Cammy pulled off a stunning upset in the opening round, and we fancy the Scotsman to deliver another solid effort here, as shown in our prediction below.
Cameron Menzies pulled off the undoubted biggest upset of Round 1 by beating world number two and second favourite for the title, Luke Humphries, 10-7 with a stunning display on Monday night.
Cammy recorded three 180s and maintained a solid average of 97.83. However, it was his closing that was most impressive, converting 45.45% of his checkout attempts, including a Big Fish close.
Menzies has now won eight of his last 10 matches, a period during which he also clinched the Players Championship 23 title at the start of this month.
Meanwhile, Ross Smith lived up to expectations in his opening match of the tournament, holding off a late surge to beat Kevin Doets 10-6 on Sunday evening here in Blackpool.
Smudger pinned seven 180s and had a three-dart average of 100.55. He was also solid on the outer ring, converting 55.56 of his checkout attempts and a highest checkout of 160.
Smith has won six of his last 10 matches in all competitions, as well as each of his three encounters against his upcoming opponent this year.

Our Cameron Menzies vs Ross Smith Prediction
Ross Smith held firm in the face of a late push by Kevin Doets to secure his spot in the second round of this year’s World Matchplay, but he will know that he cannot afford to overlook his upcoming opponent.
That’s because Cameron Menzies made a massive statement in his opener by sending the world’s second-ranked player Luke Humphries crashing out of the competition. Cammy has been in stunning form over the past couple of months, and we fancy him to deliver another big performance here. Our Cameron Menzies vs Ross Smith prediction is Cameron Menzies +3.5.
