Hungary will be out to secure qualification for Euro 2024 when they travel to play Bulgaria on Thursday. The visitors currently top Group G while Bulgaria are down in fifth place. Bulgaria cannot qualify via their group as they have had a disappointing campaign. They can however earn a playoff slot thanks to a strong Nations League campaign last season. The Lions finished second in their group in League C which has placed them in the running for the playoffs. This will however have to depend on how many teams from their League qualify directly for next year’s showpiece. Ilian Iliev’s men are yet to win in their group and have lost four of their six qualifiers. They are currently on a four-match losing run and were defeated 2-0 by Albania in a build-up match last time out.

Hungary will book their place for Germany 2024 if they can master a victory on Thursday. As they have won the last two meetings with Bulgaria, the Tricolours will be confident of getting the job done. Marco Rossi’s men have earned 14 points from their six qualifiers. They have won four and drawn a further two to remain as the only unbeaten side in Group G. The Magyars, who have one more qualifier after their trip to Plovdiv, have a one-point cushion atop their group. Hungary won 3-0 at home against Bulgaria to begin their qualifying journey back in March. If they eventually seal the qualification, they will have done so for the third consecutive tournament, a historic feat. Hungary drew 2-2 with Lithuania last time out to see a three-match winning run snapped.
