Brighton are back from European action and will on Sunday host Bournemouth in the English Premier League. The two have started the season in contrasting ways with Brighton in fifth faring way better than Bournemouth in 15th. Brighton had a disappointing debut in Europe in midweek as they were defeated at home by AEK Athens. The Seagulls were defeated 3-2 by the Greek side in the Europa League. The loss continued their vulnerability in defence as they conceded for the sixth straight match. It also ended a two-match winning run and they will be keen to get back to winning ways. Brighton defeated Manchester United 3-1 last weekend in the league. The win moved them to 12 points, three off the top spot. Brighton have been the best-scoring team in the league so far and have managed an impressive 15 goals.

Bournemouth will hope juggling domestic action and playing in Europe will take its toll on Brighton to allow them their first win. Andoni Iraola’s men are one of five teams yet to win a league match after five rounds of play. They have drawn three matches and find themselves just two points above the relegation zone. The Cherries bring with them a three-match unbeaten run to this weekend. This started with a 3-2 victory away to Swansea in the League Cup and was followed up by a 2-2 draw with Brentford. Bournemouth drew 0-0 with Chelsea last weekend at home. The visitors haven’t won away in this fixture since 2019 and have lost in their last two visits.
