The third round of the FA Cup sees two Premier League clubs clashing as Brentford hosts Wolves. One of these two sides will better their result from last season as they were both eliminated at this stage of the competition. These two teams faced off just last week for matchday 19 of the Premier League. Wolves stormed to a 4-1 away victory in an open match which saw plenty of chances for both sides.

Another loss for Brentford means its five straight defeats for the Bees as they continue to plummet down the Premier League table. At 16th-place, Thomas Frank’s side now find themselves just four points above the drop zone. Despite the losing streak, there is no real feeling that Frank’s job could be in jeopardy thanks to all that the 50-year-old Dane has accomplished since taking over in 2018. Brentford’s last time taking to the pitch resulted in a 3-1 away loss to Crystal Palace. The hosts have now conceded 12 goals on their current losing streak and haven’t kept a shutout since late October.

Wolves are in a fine run of form with a 4-1-1 record over their last six and three wins on the bounce. The purple patch has Gary O’Neil’s side up to 11th in the standings with an overall record of 8-4-8. They should be extremely high in confidence ahead of this cup tie, especially as their attack is humming with nine goals scored in their last three outings. While they were able to secure a phenomenal win on their last trip to this ground, Wolves have largely been a much better home team this campaign, averaging 1.80 points earned per fixture compared to 1.00 on the road.
