Marin Cilic is back at the Delray Beach Open after more than 10 years away and starts his tournament against seventh seed Brandon Nakashima. Their second career meeting will take place in the first round. Read on for our prediction of this match.
Brandon Nakashima made it to the quarter-finals of this event last season. It was the second time in three appearances here that he reached the last eight. He will be looking to go at least one better to offset his recent dip in form.
The world number 29 has managed just one win in his last four matches. Nakashima started the season strongly as he made it to the final in Brisbane. But since then, he has lost in the first round in Melbourne and the second round in Dallas.
Marin Cilic defeated Nakashima in their only previous showdown. That was in the semi-finals of the very first edition of the Hangzhou Open in 2024. He won in straight sets and would go on to win that tournament.
The Croat, former world number three, will be out for a win, hoping a victory over Nakashima leads to another title. Cilic was crowned champion in his last appearance in Delray, which was back in 2014.
