by Ian John in League One Predictions
Four teams will play their games in hand and catch up with the rest of League One in midweek this week. Amongst them are Blackpool, who host League One Champions Birmingham City at Bloomfield Road. Can the Tangerines end the Blues stunning run of recent form, or will the visitors claim the win to set a new record points total for the Football League? Our prediction for this match is outlined below!
A run of six wins in nine games from March pushed Steve Bruce’s Blackpool towards the playoff spots, but a recent slump of two defeats in four, means that they now lie ninth in the table with 64 points from 44 games.
Their last home game saw the Tangerines defeated 2-1 by Wrexham, who have also since confirmed their promotion to the Championship alongside Birmingham. They then followed that up with a 1-1 draw away to Wigan Athletic at the weekend.
Birmingham City remain well in front at the top of the League One table. Confirmed Champions several weeks ago, the Blues excellent form has continued unabated. With 105 points from just 44 games, they are just one behind Reading’s Football League record of 106 points in a season. A win here would see them move to 108 points, with a chance to make it 111 on the final weekend of the season.
Their last away result was a 1-0 win at Stevenage and at the weekend, they completed an unbeaten season at home, beating Mansfield Town 4-0 at St. Andrews.

Our Blackpool vs Birmingham Prediction
Our prediction for the Blackpool vs. Birmingham City League One match is: Birmingham City wins the match.
There is no doubt that Steve Bruce has done a decent job at Blackpool since taking over earlier in the season, but they have just fallen short recently to fall out of playoff contention. In contrast, Birmingham's record-breaking season has continued and the Blues fans will want a win here to set a new record for points collected in a 46-game season. The data suggests Birmingham will do precisely that.
