The hosts are in the penultimate place of the standings with a mere twenty-two points from twenty-one games, while Birmingham lie in fourteenth, five points from the play-off places. The hosts must have welcomed the international World Cup break, as they were in dismal form in its lead-up. They are coming from four defeats on the bounce, failing to score in three of them. The main issue for Blackpool is their lack of clinical edge to actually win games, even when superior to their opponents. They have tasted victory just three times in the last thirteen encounters, and a mere two in their last ten on home turf. On the upside, they have a positive recent record against Birmingham at home, beating them three times in their last five, including a 6-1 demolition in April. 

With regards to Birmingham, they are surely doing better than their hosts. While they conceded a 2-1 home defeat to Sunderland in the last game before the break, they had remained unbeaten in the four fixtures before that, while they have only lost two if their last nine matchups. In addition, Birmingham have been efficient on the road. The visitors currently boast the joint-fifth best away record in the Championship, having won in four of their last seven outings.
