Montpelier HR will travel to face the tournament's wild card, Black Lion, in their 2025-26 Challenge Cup opener on Saturday. Can the French side overcome their Georgian opponents to kick off their campaign on a strong note? Here is our prediction.
Montpellier HR crashed out in the round-of-16 of the Challenge Cup last season following a 24-17 home defeat to Gloucester Rugby. They have largely been inconsistent on the domestic front this season with a 5-1-5 record, but will head into this match on the back of two straight league victories. This includes a 28-24 win over Bordeaux Begles in their last game. The Montpellier-based outfit have also won both of their last Challenge Cup away games.
Black Lion had a disappointing Challenge Cup campaign last season, finishing bottom of Group 3 with a poor 1-0-3 record. This dismal run included three consecutive defeats in their final three group games, all of which by wide margins.
