by Matthew Newman in League One Predictions
There is League One action at St Andrew's on Saturday afternoon as Birmingham continues to come to terms with being at this level for the first time since the 1994/95 season. They welcome Wigan for a game where we look to delve deep to make a prediction.
Birmingham have picked up seven points from a possible nine so far this season. Their only blemish came in their sole home game, on the opening day against Reading. Both teams have scored in all three of their matches so far in League One so Birmingham are going to have to do some work defensively if they are going to go straight back up into the Championship this season. This, however, is the perfect opportunity for them to do so.
They were excellent at the back when playing at home last season and Saturday's visitors are not strong up front. This is a key early game for Birmingham to get themselves back to the level of defence they would expect. Their away form is better this year and they can kickstart their home wins here.
Wigan picked up their first three points of the season last weekend at home to newly promoted Crawley. They lost 2-0 at Reading in their only game away from the DW Stadium this season. They fell behind after just seven minutes that day so will be hoping for a better start here.
They have been toothless in front of goal so far this season and while Birmingham have not looked great at the back, Wigan do not look in any way equipped to break the Blues down.
