Birmingham City hosting Coventry City will be one of the big games to follow in the Championship this Saturday. The hosts, placed 18th are in the relegation battle while seventh-placed Coventry are chasing a playoff spot. There is so much to play for, for both sides. Birmingham City, on 42 points, had a great chance to rise from the relegation zone but fell 1-0 at home to Cardiff City in their last game. There is still a chance though, with four games to play, Birmingham being just a point from safety. While they look to make the most of the remaining matches, Birmingham will know there is very little room for error now. Their final two matches of the season will be against a promotion contender and another side seeking survival. It thus calls on the Blues to do all for the biggest chunk of the remaining 12 points up for grabs. Their recent form doesn’t make for a good reading though. Birmingham have one win in their last 10 matches, and suffered eight defeats in that run. They’ve also been poor defensively, keeping just two clean sheets in 20 matches. A 1-0 win over Preston at the start of April remains their only home win in five matches. They lost the other four.

Coventry City have stuttered in their recent matches, leaving them five points outside the promotion playoff positions. With a game in hand, they will be looking to narrow that gap here. The three sides below them are also strong contenders for sixth spot, so there’s really little margin for error. Fortunately for the visitors, this is a fixture they’ve done well in recently. In the reverse game in December, they beat Birmingham 2-0 to go seven unbeaten against the Blues. That was also their third win in four matches against Birmingham, and third straight clean sheet. If there was any need for motivation coming into this game, that run will do, as they seek to rise from two defeats in three games. In their most recent game, Haji Wright missed an early penalty as Coventry slumped to a 2-1 loss at Southampton. With four wins in six matches, they come into this game as favorites, and the Sky Blues will want to make it count.
