by Ian John in League One Predictions
Table-toppers Birmingham City return to league action in midweek against bottom-of-the-table Cambridge United. St. Andrews will host the League Two fixture between the Blues and U’s, featuring the teams with the best and worst records in the division. Is our prediction simply a formality, or could the visitors spring a huge surprise on their trip to the Midlands?
It’s been a fantastic season for Birmingham City so far. The Blues top the League One table with 63 points from 27 games and now have at least two games in hand on any other team in the top eight, as well as a four-point gap over Wycombe, who lie second. Cambridge sit rock bottom with the U’s having taken 23 points from 29 games. They are already seven points adrift of safety.
Birmingham’s most recent league action saw them secure a 1-0 win away at Huddersfield and then a 2-1 win at home to Rotherham. This past weekend, they were in FA Cup action, going down to a 3-2 home defeat against Newcastle in a pulsating fourth-round tie.
Cambridge lost one and drew two of their last three. They lost 2-1 away to Rotherham before a 1-1 home draw with Wycombe, and then, on the weekend, they earned a 1-1 draw away to Lincoln City.

Our Birmingham vs Cambridge United Prediction
Our prediction for the Birmingham City vs. Cambridge United League One match is: Birmingham City to win and Both Teams to Score - Yes.
The data for this fixtures is unequivocal. It would be a huge shock if Birmingham were not to win this game comfortably. However, Cambridge have scored seven goals in their last six away games, drawing three of them, albeit against lesser teams than the League One leaders. As such a Birmingham win, with both teams scoring, looks the better value option here.
